Road Race Information

The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic is a UCI 1.1 and USA Cycling Pro-Road Tour sanctioned Road Race. Athletes from around the cycling world travel to Winston-Salem to collect UCI points and over twenty five thousand dollars in prize money. The race circuit consists of a challenging route that travels over 8.5 Miles around our lovely city. The Winston-Cycling Classic Road Race begins at 10:00 AM and should be finished @ 6:30 PM.  The race itself travels in an envelope of protection by police vehicles and moto-marshalls. As a reminder this group traveling around town creates “rolling enclosures”. Intersections along the entire route remain open until the “peloton” reaches that spot. At each intersection throughout Winston Salem there will be a WSPD officer manning that intersection and when the “peleton” arrives they will hold the traffic until the cyclists pass through. For the four years previously of the event the police have reported back that the longest an intersection has been held has been 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Aside from Patterson Street between 5th St and 4th St the entire route remains OPEN. All we ask is that you travel in a clock wise manner so that you do not travel in an opposing direction of the cyclists. WSPD will allow you to travel clockwise along the route however we ask that you take the next closest street that will get you to your location to limit active time on the route.
