Welcome from The National Cycling Center Chairman, Sterling Swaim
As Chairman of the board for the National Cycling Center, I welcome you to one of Winston-Salem’s marque events, the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. 2020 rings in our 8th year of hosting the WSCC and we hope you enjoy your time in what has become a true cycling hub, the City of Winston-Salem.
I am honored and proud that our city has embraced this truly international event. The entire organizing team works tirelessly to insure a world class event and pushes the boundaries of hospitality & event amenities each year. The race courses for both Saturday’s Criterium and Monday’s UCI 1.1/1.2 Road Race, showcase the renewed beauty yet reflect the historic roots of our city.
It seems our event parallels the downtown Winston-Salem renewal. So many of you have commented on the unique energy the event produces. I believe there is a synergy between the event and the community.
Our UCI road race is the only combined (ME/WE) one day UCI urban road race course on the domestic racing calendar. So many neighbors enjoy their Memorial Day celebrations while cheering on the peloton as it passes by their homes. Each year produces bigger crowds and bigger parties along the race route. The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic continues to unite our community in such a unique way.
We take great pride in our partnerships & support from the Winston-Salem Police Department, Winston-Salem City Officials and many local businesses. Their support is critical to the financial and logistical success of our event.
I wish you the best of success, but most of all, a safe race weekend. On behalf of the City of Winston-Salem and The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic organizing team, thank you for visiting and making our event one that you continue to return to each year. We celebrate your success, as our success.
Sterling Swaim, Chairman National Cycling Center
